About the conferences
The bioeconomy - using renewable biological resources from land and sea to produce food, materials and energy - is central to the EU’s vision for sustainable competitiveness, green security of supply, and climate resilience. Bioeconomy offers solutions for producing food, feed, materials, and energy within the planetary boundaries – while at the same time creating jobs, revitalizing rural areas, restoring ecosystems and contributing to the decarbonisation of the EU economy.
As Denmark assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2025, the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Ministry for Green Transition, on behalf of the European Commission, will host two conferences focused on advancing the EU’s green transition through bioeconomy, food systems, and biodiversity. The conferences will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2025.
The first conference on the 2nd of December will mark a key moment for the launch of the new EU Bioeconomy Strategy. The strategy aims to unlock the full potential of bio-based innovation, enabling Europe to lead in regenerative, circular, and sustainable growth. This high-level conference will explore how to boost and mainstream the bioeconomy through science, innovation, and governance.
The second conference on the 3rd of December will focus on transformative governance for food systems and biodiversity, bringing together European leaders and change agents.
The conferences will convene policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, civil society, and EU project representatives to discuss how to turn strategy into action. Join us in shaping the future of Europe’s green transition.
